Problem
I need to remove an email account from Outlook.
Symptoms
An old, unused, or incorrect account is still listed in Outlook and you want it removed.
Solution
Remove the account through Outlook's account settings.
Step-by-step instructions
- 1Classic Outlook: go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
- 2Classic Outlook: on the Email tab, select the account to remove, click Remove, and confirm.
- 3Classic Outlook: restart Outlook for the change to take effect.
- 4New Outlook: click the gear icon (Settings) > Accounts > Email accounts.
- 5New Outlook: click the account you want to remove, then click Remove account, and confirm.
- 6Note: removing a shared mailbox only removes it from your view. Removing your primary work account signs you out of Outlook entirely - contact IT first if you're unsure which account to remove.
