Windows update problem

Windows Update fails, gets stuck, or will not install.

Update stuck at a percentage, error code during install, or "Update failed" message.

Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and clear the update cache.

1. 1Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update and run the troubleshooter.
2. 2Restart the PC and try the update again.
3. 3Ensure there is at least 10GB of free disk space.
4. 4Open Services, stop the Windows Update service, clear the C:\\Windows\\SoftwareDistribution folder, then restart the service.
5. 5Retry the update.
6. 6Contact IT with the exact error code if it still fails.
